Prof. Dominik Grimm, Head of the Professorship of Bioinformatics at HSWT on the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS), gave a talk on “Weed Detection with Drones and Artificial Intelligence” at the Haus der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (hbw) in Munich on 24 November.
Excursion to the Lidl warehouse in Straubing
This week, a cohort of our Master students visited the Lidl warehouse in Straubing, a hub managing logistics for 81 stores and offering nearly the complete range of products. The visit gave us detailed insights into the in- and outbound processes and order picking, providing a firsthand understanding of its operational challenges.
Diwali Fest
The TUM Campus Straubing is international! Following the success of the TUMCS International Day, another cultural event highlighted the campus’ diversity. On Friday, 10 November 2023, the Diwali fest was celebrated on campus. Diwali, the festival of lights, is the most significant holiday for Hindus, similar to how Christmas is celebrated in Western cultures.
Food logistics: more complex than ever
What are food producers doing to keep shelves full despite rising energy and capital costs? What makes food logistics more difficult? These and other questions were discussed by food producers and over 150 students and researchers from seven universities in an online workshop.

Carrying the idea of the bioeconomy into the world
The TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) for Biotechnology and Sustainability said farewell to its graduates in a ceremony on Friday. More than 90 Bachelor’s and Master’s students received a certificate and a sustainable mini city tower as a small gift from the hands of Rector Prof. Volker Sieber, Vice-Rector Prof. Anja Faße and Dean of Studies Prof. Cordt Zollfrank.
The climate killer – How CO2 can be avoided
On Monday, 23 October 2023, the Straubing Sustainability Talks will take place for the first time at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) – a new joint format of the Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V. and the TUM Campus. Great success for TUMCS: Young Research Award for Sara Ferrara and Luca Cavinato
Exciting news for TUMCS and the Chair of Biogenic Functional Materials of Prof. Rubén Costa: The scientists Sara Ferrara and Luca Cavinato have won the prestigious Young Research Award of the European Material Research Society. This is the second time for Luca, while Sara was selected as the best PhD Thesis 2023 in the international competition.
Machine Learning Research School in Bangkok: Poster Award für Josef Eiglsperger
Award for Josef Eiglsperger: The doctoral student at the Professorship of Bioinformatics (Prof. Dominik Grimm) at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) at TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) received the “Outstanding Poster Award” for his poster and presentation at the Machine Learning Research School (MLRS) in Bangkok. The Research Summer School ran from 02.08. to 09.08.2023 and took place at the Digital Economy Promotion Agency.
First Edition of Straubinger Sustainability Symposium was held on 2023-08-11
On Friday, 11.08.23 the first edition of the Straubinger Sustainability Symposium was held. Over 30 participants from all over Germany met to present and discuss their research. As the title suggests, all topics were focused on the different dimensions of sustainability.
