3rd Straubing Sustainability Talks at the TUM Campus Straubing

On Monday, 4 November 2024, the third Straubing Sustainability Talks will take place at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) – a joint format of Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V. and the TUM Campus. This time, the colloquium will focus on water. With the event, in which the Bavarian Minister of the Environment, Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters), will also take part, the organisers want to highlight the dangers to which the elixir of life, water, is exposed and how this valuable resource can be sustainably protected.

Water is the basis of all life and indispensable for our progress. As the source of biological cycles and a medium for transport, hygiene and energy production, it is precious and therefore highly worthy of protection. On the other hand, uncontrolled amounts of water are causing increasing concern, as this year’s river flooding shows.

“It is a fact that water is under threat in terms of its quality and availability,”” says Toni Hinterdobler, chairman of the Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V. “Climate change, economic activity and undesirable developments in construction and infrastructure are among the causes. This vital resource also has enormous economic significance and considerable potential for political conflict,” says Hinterdobler. “At the Sustainability Talks, we will discuss strategies for restoring and sustainably protecting water quality and present the issue of water quantity.”

General public invited

The lectures and a panel discussion with representatives from politics, science and business will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the tiered lecture hall U7 of the TUM Campus Straubing at Uferstraße 53 and are aimed at the general public. Admission to the event is free. Among others, Bavaria’s Minister of the Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber, has confirmed his attendance.

The Straubing Sustainability Talks regularly examine the guiding theme of sustainability in greater depth, providing social and political impetus. The first event in October 2023 focused on the topic of “CO2 as a Climate Killer”, while the second event in May of this year focused on sustainable land use.
